Calorie restriction and the pace of biological ageing
A clock analysis found a modest signal, with important differences between measures.

What the research found
A post hoc analysis of the CALERIE randomised trial examined DNA methylation measures in 220 adults assigned to calorie restriction or an unrestricted diet. The investigators reported a small slowing in DunedinPACE, a measure designed to estimate the pace of ageing. They did not find corresponding significant changes in the PhenoAge and GrimAge measures used in the analysis.
Where the evidence stops
The findings concern biomarkers over a limited follow-up period. They do not establish additional years of life, and the disagreement between measures is a reason to interpret any single biological-age score cautiously.
The private-client perspective
For clients interested in nutrition, the most useful service is a sustainable plan that accounts for nutritional adequacy, muscle, existing conditions and daily life. Biological clocks may support research discussions, but should not become the sole target of a programme. An improvement that is smaller than ordinary measurement variation, or that does not change a useful decision, has limited practical value.
