Omega-3, exercise and modest changes in ageing clocks

A three-year study invites a careful reading of biological-age measurements.

What the research found

An analysis of 777 older adults in the DO-HEALTH trial examined DNA methylation clocks after omega-3, vitamin D and exercise interventions. The researchers reported small effects on selected measures, with some combined effects across interventions. The estimated changes were on the scale of a few months over three years, rather than a dramatic reversal of whole-body age.

Where the evidence stops

This was a post hoc biomarker analysis. A change in an epigenetic clock does not by itself demonstrate improved function, fewer illnesses or extended survival, and it is not a personalised supplement recommendation.

The private-client perspective

The practical attraction of sustainable movement and good nutrition should not depend on sensational clock claims. A private programme can focus on adherence, strength, appropriate dietary choices and regular review while treating emerging biomarkers as contextual information. Decisions about supplements should account for the person’s health, medications, diet and the evidence for the intended outcome.
